How did Deep Sidhu enter politics?

Deep Sidhu entered the world of politics when Sunny Deol got his ticket as Bharatiya Janta Party’s (BJP) Gurdaspur MP. He also gained popularity because of his videos on politics and history on Facebook. Sidhu also attended many meetings of the farm bills protests. The famous Punjabi actor always says that the issue was not limited to MSP and he wants to fight for a larger problem.

Role of Deep Sidhu in the violence at Red Fort

Most of the farmers’ unions did not agree to break the Government’s barricades during the “Delhi Chalo” protest. But, Deep Sidhu joined the Bharatiya Kisan Union intending to break the Shambu border barriers and forced other Kisan unions to move towards Delhi.

Sidhu was continuously marching with the protestors and was also seen arguing with the security personnel. Deep Sidhu always used to quote Martin Luther King and Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in his speeches. He used to emphasize the idea of strengthening the federal structure of states and Indian constitution.

Views of Deep Sidhu on hoisting the Nishan Sahib

The Delhi government permitted the farmers to take out the Kisan tractor parade on Republic day. However, the protestors did not follow the decided routes and reached the Red fort. Thousands of farmers broke barriers to enter the capital city and highlight their demands on Republic day.

The Punjabi singer and actor also did a Facebook live while hoisting the pennant on Red Fort. In the Facebook live video, he said-“We have hoisted the Nishan Sahib flag at the Red Fort while exercising the democratic rights to protest.” Nishan Sahib is a Sikh flag present in every Gurudwara, and people carry it in various religious processions.

The reaction of people on Republic day violence

The Samkyukt Kisan Morcha is an umbrella body that comprises 41 farmer unions, disassociates themselves from all the people involved in the violence.

Gurnam Singh Chaduni, Chief of Bharatiya Kisan Union in Haryana, accused Deep Sidhu to mislead the protestors. According to Gurnam Singh Chaduni-“He (Deep Sidhu) led them to Red fort. Farmers never wanted to go to Red Fort.”

Sunny Deol also expressed his grief on the Red for the incident by tweeting-“I had earlier, on December 6 through Twitter said that neither I nor my family has any links to Deep Sidhu.”
