Government Extends the GST Return Filing Deadline by Two Days

New Delhi: Due to the technical problems on the online portal of GST Network, the government has given an extension of two days for filing the GST returns for April. The new deadline is May 22, 2018.

According to an official statement, taxpayers are facing a few technical issues while filing of GSTR-3B for April. Therefore, in the interest of taxpayers it has been decided to extend the last date for filing of GSTR-3B for the month of April by 2 days till May 22. The statement also said that emergency maintenance is being carried out on the system.

This was also confirmed on the official twitter handle for IT related queries on GST i.e. GST Tech. The tweet read: “Due to emergency maintenance activity, GST Portal will be unavailable on 18th May, 2018, from 2:45 PM to 3:15 PM”.

Notably, CBEC introduced the simple return form GSTR-3B which is to be filed separately for each GSTIN. A few portions of Part B of GSTR-3 form will be automatically populated from GSTR-3B which you have filed. Any incongruity in them can be corrected later in GSTR-3 and payable tax can be deposited.

Also, it should be remembered that any tax liability of this form must be paid by last date of filing of the month and mistakes should be avoided while filing the GSTR-3B form because there is no provision of revision.

GSTR-3B form can be filed by anyone or almost everyone despite having zero returns. Though, there is no need for input service distributor, composition dealers, supplier of OIDAR and non-resident taxable person to file this form.
