GADGET: Realme Launches U1, Check Review and Specs

It is Quite rare these days to see any new brand grabbing a position so swiftly in today’s market scenario which already is witnessing such high competition, but against the odds, Realme brand made its debut early this year, and four smartphones later it made a mark for itself. The Success of Realme 1,2 & 2pro is the reason behind this bold new launch of Realme U1

The Realme U1 was launched in India on Wednesday as part of a new U-series. This is a series that seems to be about introducing selfie-centric phones, which is what the U1 is about. But the Realme U1 is also about offering something unique like past Realme phones, which is why it is the first phone in the world to be powered by the new Helio P70 chipset. This along with Realme’s commitment to offering an attractive design at an affordable starting price of Rs 11,999 makes the Realme U1 yet another potentially promising smartphone. I spent some time with the Realme U1 and here are my initial thoughts.

The Realme U1 is powered by 2.1GHz octa-core processor and it comes with 4GB of RAM. The phone packs 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card The USP of Realme u1 is for better selfies. Its High-resolution cameras and fast processing are the main features.

By looks, the U1 looks very akin to the recently launched realme 2 pro. The round edges and the matte finish means it’s not too slippery. The laminated back gives a very shiny look when light bounces off it. The display is 6.3 inches with 450 nit brightness level which means it has a decent brightness level and daylight cannot affect its performance. Resolution is 1080x2340px because of it the screen gives very sharp quality images and vivid colours. Realme U1 uses Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which is of a quite older generation. The fingerprint sensor works smoothly and is quick in response. Face unlock is crazy fast.

The Realme U1 comes in two models:

4GB Ram/64 GB storage

3GB Ram/32 GB storage

It has OPS as colorOS 5.2 which is based on Android 8.1 oreo. Finally, realme has removed it two-step notification dismissal, now to dismiss a notification you just need to right swipe. This phone comes with preloaded apps which can be uninstalled.

U1 comes with two new software features. Smart Scan and O Roaming. Smart scan now has Hindi as a language option. Using smart scan you can take a photo of text and it will get converted into editable text. This feature does not require an active internet connection.

O roaming creates a type of a virtual sim card on your phone. You can use the data services of on phone by selecting the name of the country you are travelling to without changing your sim or activating your network’s International Roaming.

If we talk on gaming, the phone can run almost any game available in the market with smooth frame rates. The phone is a true delight for gamers and gives the best gaming experience in this price range.

Realme U1 has a Sony 25 megapixel f/2.0 aperture camera which captures heavy details in the daylight. You can Activate Depth effect or portrait mode. In night time, the camera is not very effective.

The rear 13.3-megapixel camera with a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The super vivid mode in the camera is very useful. The frame rate is very good. the low light images give good colours.

Talking on the battery, the phone has a pretty decent battery backup. 3500 Mah battery easily lasts a day on full charge. It comes without fast charge but a powerful adapter increases the rate of its charging
