OnePlus is all Set to Enter Smart TV Market
Premium smartphone maker OnePlus is entering the smart television segment joining the leagues of smartphone makers foraying into the TV market.
OnePlus founder and CEO, Pete Lau, will lead the new division alongside the existing smartphone division, a company release said.
“I dream about a time when technology is truly seamless, an effortless part of your life without being the focus. As other consumer electronics have evolved and improved our lives, televisions have remained conventional and cumbersome,” said Lau.
“We bring inherent advantages to the industry, and with this new division, we’re excited to explore the total connected user experience that can enhance everyday life,” he said.
The release said it is a natural extension for OnePlus to address gaps in the television industry, which it tackled in the smartphone market balancing high-quality hardware with the latest in technology.
Last quarter, OnePlus emerged as India’s largest premium smartphone maker overtaking Samsung and Apple.
India’s television market is valued at Rs 22,000 crore growing at 15 per cent. The market recently saw the entry of hardcore smartphone makers like Xiaomi, Micromax, Intex and other newer brands like Kodak, Thomson, Blaupunkt, Skyworth and TCL.
