Mumbai: Essel Infraprojects Limited (EIL), a part of Subhash Chandra led diversified Essel conglomerate and country’s largest integrated player in Infrastructure, Utilities, Green and Smart City space, is proud to announce its first Waste to Energy (WtE) plant in Maharashtra at Nagpur.
The Bhoomipujan of the plant was held on July 16, 2018.
Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari, and Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis graced the occasion.
“We thank Nitin Gadkari, Dev Fadnavis and C Bawankule for their gracious presence on the occasion of ground breaking ceremony of Solid Waste treatment plant at Nagpur. This will be a catalyst to provide cleaner air, water for citizens,” Subhash Chandra, Essel Group Chairman, said.
EIL has successfully commenced its state-of-the-art WtE and Collection & Transportation (C&T) projects and operations in Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), Ranchi (Jharkhand) and Amritsar (Punjab).
Project to Treat 800 Tonnes of Waste
Nagpur Solid Waste Processing and Management Private Limited (NSWPMPL), a company incorporated by EIL will develop the project by investing INR. 218.80 crore. Once the project is functional it will treat 800 tonnes of the total 1100 tonnes of waste generated in the city.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will provide INR.70 crore to NSWPMPL as viability gap funding for execution under Swachh Bharat Mission. NSWPMPL will develop the project in two years followed by operation and maintenance for 13 years. The tipping charges of Rs 225 per tonne, will be paid by NMC, which will increase by 4.5 per cent every year.
NSWPMPL will get revenue from MSEDCL for the purchase of power and recover its investment. The company will also operate existing landfill site and develop two more, including their operation and maintenance for 13 years. This will ensure the mitigation of fire incidents, foul smell, pollution in groundwater and air.
The WtE plant at Nagpur could not have come at a better time for the residents of the orange city.
According to the Swachh Sarvekshan Survey, 2018, a survey to rank 500 cities in India on the basis of cleanliness and other aspects of urban sanitation initiated by Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, Nagpur ranked 55 out of a total of 434 cities surveyed.
With Essel Infra, coming on board, Nagpur residents can look forward to an affordable, innovative and efficient waste management solution for their city.
