EESL to retrofit energy-efficient appliances in 400 SDMC schools
New Delhi: Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under Ministry of Power, Government of India has joined hands with South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) for retrofitting energy-efficient appliances in 400 schools maintained by the civic body.
EESL has recently signed the agreement with SDMC under which EESL will procure, install and provide warranty support for LED lights and ceiling fans. The project includes installation of 24,000 five-star energy efficient ceiling fans, 38,000 LED tube lights of 20W each, 200 LED street lights of 35W each, 600 flood lights of 70W each and 100 flood lights of 110W each. The fans and lights will have a warranty of five years.
SDMC will make the entire upfront investment of INR 4.98 crore on the project that will enable more savings, illumination and reduction in CO2 emission.
As part of its Buildings Energy Efficiency Programme, EESL has partnered with several leading institutions like the Airports Authority of India, Indian Railways, Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation etc, to replace inefficient lighting and cooling appliances with energy saving equipment.

With an unprecedented 140X growth in 2 years, EESL’s flagship initiative, Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA), has revolutionized India’s access to energy saving LED bulbs and reduced carbon emissions by up to 27 million tonnes every year. Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) across India’s energy intensive industries and other key demand-side economic sectors promise an investment potential of INR 74,000 crore through large scale deployments.
